Random News and Stuff

I've picked up a few gaming news items lately, and I wanted to pass them along just in case y'all weren't aware of them:

Betrayal at House on the Hill to be Reprinted!

Some of us were lucky enough to pick up a copy of this great "horror" game at MSRP, but others are forced to pay around $100 to find it on ebay.  Well, that will be no more once Hasbro re-releases Betrayal at House on the Hill next fall.  In addition to revised (heck, I'd say "fixed") rules, all of the old scenarios will be better balanced and there will be even be new, "never seen before" scenarios!  There's even a contest being run on the BGG page for BaHotH!  Check out this thread on BGG for more information.

I'm assuming that there will also be an improvement in components, but I could be wrong about that.  If so, however, it may be hard for me to resist picking up a second copy...

First Podcast from MACE!

Ron Blessing and crew recorded a couple of podcasts from MACE this year, and the first one has finally hit the "air"!  Episode 2 of Smiling Jack's Bar and Grill covers the Savage Saturday Night event at MACE, which was an evening of Savage Worlds gaming that involved about 40 people and was supported by Pinnacle Enertainment and several of the SW writers and luminaries.  They also talked some about the con in general, and even interviewed Ron McClung and Jeff Smith (the con organizers) a little.

I understand that Ron Blessing  also has an episode of his own podcast, The Game's the Thing, about MACE as well, so keep your eyes open for it!

Valdora Released in English!

Valdora is a Michael Schacht game which was a Spiel des Jahre "recommendation" last year, but had gone without an English publisher for some time.  Thankfully, Rio Grande has just released a domestic version, and it may already be in some of your FLGS's!  Personally,  Doug Garrett has talked this up so much that I really want to give it a try, and may pick it up if I have some Christmas money left over.

I'm sure that there are a few other items that I wanted to mention, but I can't remember them right now.  Any thoughts about this stuff?

It's a pick-up-and-deliver game where you claim and then complete different contracts around the board.  Each city has this little do-jobby that holds cards and makes them look like a book, which you can "turn pages" in to get to other contracts or whatever.  From what I've heard, there seems to be several different strategies that you can try, but it's still got the streamlined mechanics of most Michael Schacht games (like China, Zooloretto, Patrician, etc.)

I was wondering when Betrayal would be reprinted. It is a cash cow waiting to be milked. I know I'll pick it up. I agree with you about Valdora. Doug has talked it up so much that it is on the Buy list.
Once again, Mace was awesome. It was especially good to finally meet and game with you. I hope we can game more soon. Pulp Gamer has some Mace wrap up also. Check out the Impact episode of Out of Character. Ron Blessing talks about MACE and a certain local boy is highlighted.
