Two New Podcasts! One Rocks and the Other... not so much.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and most of them are about boardgames.  So it's always nice to find something new to try out on my trusty old iPod.  Over the last week, I've listened to two new 'casts, and here are my thoughts about them:

TableGamerWeekly

Two 17-year-old Canadians host this new show, and they've hit the ground running.  They've actually been at it since June, and are already up to episode 22.  I've listened to a handful of shows so far (4 or 5), and the main thing that comes across to me is how incredibly young they are.  Not that they do or say inappropriate things or anything like that, but just that they don't have much real experience or background with the hobby.  I applaud their interest and effort, and I think they're doing a great job with the look of their site and sound quality of their shows, but for right now, the content quality just isn't getting there for me.  I'll keep downloading them for now and see how they progress, but for me and my gaming preferences, I don't really trust their opinion enough, especially when it comes to helping me make buying decisions.

I've Been Diced!

On the other hand, I've Been Diced! has blown me away with the depth of knowledge and experience that they have about the hobby.  The format is usually a roundtable discussion from a group of 5 gamers, similar to how Myriad Games does most of their shows.  But lead host Tom Grant also gave a terrific solo review of the Field Commander series of solo wargames in episode 2, and he did a really great job.  While the sound quality and website presence isn't quite as polished, I could listen to these guys talk about games all day long.  Hopefully, I'll get the chance to continue listening, and I wish them the best in keeping up their commitment to making good shows.   Definitely check them out if you're looking to pick up another boardgaming podcast!
